This textbook provides a good introduction to the science of wildlife toxicology, with emphasis on the situation in the USA. It contains 9 chapters, covering: historical perspectives (by J.O. Keith); laws, regulations and agencies dealing with toxic substances in the environment; elements, chemicals and compounds found in environmental pollutants; transport and distribution in natural systems; accumulation in organisms; lethal effects on organisms; chronic effects on organisms; effects on ecosystems; classic examples (i.e. DDT, PCBs, polybrominated biphenyls and mercury). Chemical compounds and scientific names are listed in addenda. The book contains a large bibliography, and a combined author/subject index.
